A shooting incident in Sege has left one person dead and injured several others.
The incident is said to have emanated from a feud between Electrochem Ghana Limited and residents of Ada.
President Akufo-Addo on August 30 commissioned an ultra-modern salt mining and processing plant at Ada Songor owned by Electrochem Ghana Limited after stern opposition and consistent protests by residents of the area.
“I was on air when I heard there was an attack on the people in the area. They said were attacked by some land guards of Electrochem. About 25 people have been butchered.”
“Today they [alleged land guards] went to Toflokpo. The chief of the town told me that, when the landguards got there, they started attacking anyone they see. The people of Toflokpo also retaliated. Some people of Ada said that is where they get their source of livelihood from so if Electrochem is taking over the whole land, where are they supposed to get their source of income and livelihood from?”
The journalist reported that, the District Chief Executive of the area who had gone to the area to ascertain the situation was beaten to a pulp.
“I spoke to the DCE. He said he tried to go there and speak to them. When he got there, he met the chief who gave him some people to go with him to ascertain the issue. As he got there, he met several people, and they beat him to a pulp.”
Nene Mayilo Dadebom II, Chief of Toflokpo who also spoke said so far five persons have been injured.
“They [Electrochem] are using force. Five persons were injured. We are not against development but to stop us from continuing with what we have been doing for years, that won’t happen,” he said.
