Eleven persons have been confirmed dead following a fatal accident that occurred around 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, at Amanase, near Suhum, on the Accra-Kumasi Highway.

The tragic collision involved a fuel tanker (registration GR 1300-16) and a Benz Sprinter bus (registration GW 6510-23). Preliminary investigations by police indicate that the tanker driver, believed to have been dozing off, veered off his lane and crashed head-on into the oncoming Sprinter bus.

The impact led to the instant death of two female and nine male adults. Several other passengers sustained critical injuries and were rushed to nearby medical facilities for emergency care.

Emergency response teams from the Suhum Fire Service and Police Service were swiftly deployed to the scene to assist with rescue efforts and manage traffic along the busy highway.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the full cause of the crash.

Confirming the incident, the Suhum Municipal Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, ADO1 Akonnor Opare Ohene Daniel, told journalists that the survivors are currently receiving treatment at the Suhum Government Hospital.

Meanwhile, the Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Awatey, who expressed sadness over the incident, is on her way to the Suhum Government Hospital to assess the situation.

She is expected to provide the necessary support, including facilitating the transfer of critically injured victims to higher-level health facilities if needed.
