A joint police and military operation has led to the arrest of 191 persons in Ehi, in the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta Region, following last week’s attack on the local police post.

The unrest erupted after the arrest of a man alleged to have murdered a fellow youth in the community.

Agitated residents reportedly demanded that police release the suspect to them for instant justice, leading to a violent standoff that resulted in the vandalisation of the Ehi Police Station and some exhibit vehicles.

In a statement, the Ghana Armed Forces confirmed that the operation formed part of simultaneous intelligence-led swoops being conducted in Ashanti, Bono, and Ehi in the Volta Region.

The Ghana Police Service has since confirmed the arrest and ongoing screening of 191 suspects believed to be connected to the November 5 disturbance.

The Public Relations Officer of the Volta Regional Police Command, Chief Inspector Francis Gomado, cautioned the public against attacks on security agencies, stressing that individuals found culpable in the Ehi incident will face the full rigours of the law.
