Mustapha Ussif, the Minister of Youth and Sports, has confirmed that Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) was paid over $3 million for covering the 2023 African Games.

Although the event, originally scheduled for 2023, has been rescheduled to March 2024, Ussif stated during a Public Accounts Committee hearing on August 19, 2024, that full payment was made to GBC.
While he could not recall the exact figure, he affirmed it was more than $3 million.
This response was aimed at addressing claims about outstanding payments to workers involved in the broadcast.
Sam George, the Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram and a committee member, raised concerns about the payments and pledged to investigate further when GBC representatives appear before the committee.
The government invested $195 million in constructing facilities for the 2023 African Games and also provided lodging and meals for athletes and officials from participating countries. Ghana secured a total of 69 medals during the event.
