The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has justified its call for vigilance and close monitoring of the December 2024 polls by pointing out what it sees as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) lack of substantive campaign messages, which it views as a potential sign of rigging.

During the NDC’s campaign launch in Tamale, flagbearer John Dramani Mahama urged supporters to stay alert until all votes are counted by the Electoral Commission (EC) to guard against possible rigging by the NPP.
In an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Malik Basintale, the NDC’s Deputy Communication Officer, criticized NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for focusing on just three campaign messages: his Northern heritage, Muslim faith, and his promise to serve eight years, unlike Mahama.
Basintale suggested that the NPP’s apparent lack of a detailed campaign message raises concerns and emphasized the need for vigilance to ensure a fair and transparent election.
“Dr. Bawumia has just three policies. One is because he says he’s a Northerner, two is we should vote for him because he’s a Muslim and three, he says we should vote for him because he can do eight years and John Mahama cannot eight years, those are his three policies.”
“So sometimes I ask myself, ‘Are these people really in the contest?’ What is their end game? And so we are determined that we’ll win this election with three things.
One with our good track record, two, with our policy statement that seeks to find solutions to the problems of the suffering Ghanaians and three, that is most of all, is vigilance on election day. We are not going to beg.”
