The Mpraeso District Court, under the presiding of Her Lordship Adwoa Akyemaa Ofosu, has remanded 26 suspects into police custody, with plans to reconvene on November 14, 2024.
The individuals are facing charges related to their alleged involvement in the arrest and kidnapping of Akyemfour Asiedu Agyemang III, the Kwahu Abetifihene.

Among the suspects is one female. The case stems from a violent clash on Thursday, November 7, when a group of armed men stormed the Abetifi Palace in an attempt to depose Akyemfour Asiedu Agyemang III, who also serves as the acting President of the Kwahu Traditional Area. The confrontation resulted in six injuries.
According to sources, tensions heightened when Obaapanyin Yaa Asantewaa, claiming to be the Abrewatia (chief’s wife) of the Kwahu area, arrived in Abetifi with armed men.
The group allegedly moved the acting President to a nearby older palace, where traditional rites—including the ritual slaughtering of a sheep—were carried out in an attempt to destool him.
The news of the attempted destoolment quickly spread, sparking outrage among local youth who armed themselves with machetes in protest.
