The National Ambulance Service has disclosed an increase in trained personnel, with 6,000 community medical first responders now deployed across districts to provide emergency care before ambulances arrive.

Greater Accra Regional Manager, Daniel Asare, speaking said the initiative was part of efforts to strengthen the country’s emergency response system.

“These responders are working in communities to perform basic life-saving manoeuvres, such as placing patients in the recovery position, ensuring immediate care while ambulances are on the way,” Asare explained.

He added that the service is exploring the use of motorbikes equipped with first aid kits to navigate traffic quickly and reduce response times. Plans also include training personnel for air ambulance operations to extend reach in critical cases.

“As we expand these initiatives, government support and collaboration with agencies like the YEA remain essential to ensuring timely emergency care for all Ghanaians,” Asare emphasised.

The National Ambulance Service continues to advocate for more resources and support to improve emergency healthcare delivery nationwide.
