A recent Afrobarometer survey has revealed widespread disapproval among Ghanaians regarding the government’s handling of the economy.
Conducted in October with 2,400 participants, the survey indicates that 78% believe economic conditions have worsened during President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s tenure, especially when compared to the previous administration under John Dramani Mahama.

The survey results reflect public concerns over deteriorating economic conditions, job creation, and rising prices, issues many feel have not been adequately addressed.
Notably, 82% of respondents expressed that Ghana is heading in the wrong direction, a slight improvement from 87% in 2022, yet still indicative of widespread dissatisfaction.
Job creation emerged as a critical area of frustration, with many respondents feeling that government initiatives have fallen short in addressing high unemployment, particularly among the youth.
Furthermore, efforts to manage inflation and stabilize prices have not met public expectations, as families continue to struggle with the high cost of essential goods and services.
Despite some achievements in areas like education and electricity, the Afrobarometer survey underscores the urgent need for more effective economic policies to address the concerns of Ghanaian citizens.
