Henry Quartey, Ghana’s Minister of Interior, has revealed that nearly 90,000 individuals applied for positions in the country’s security services before the recruitment portals closed on August 13, 2024.
Parliament has approved a budget to recruit approximately 12,000 new personnel across various security agencies.

Quartey emphasized that the security agencies will need to rigorously apply their eligibility criteria to select qualified candidates from this large pool of applicants.
He noted that, despite the high number of applications, the recruitment intake is capped at around 12,000.
In response to allegations from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that he offered bribes to NDC Members of Parliament to recruit their constituents, Quartey categorically denied these claims.
He clarified that he simply informed his colleagues about the recruitment opportunities and encouraged them to share the information with their constituents.
