A disturbing incident has been reported in Yendi, where broadcast journalist Shaharan Suhuyini was allegedly attacked by supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Suhuyini’s Facebook post, he was assaulted while attempting to report on vote transfers at the Electoral Commission’s office.

The journalist claimed that the attackers, who were allegedly loyal to the Yendi MP, targeted him because of his association with Sankara Radio 103.1, a station owned by MASLOC CEO Shani Abibata.

Suhuyini stated that despite pleas from Zogbee Naa to leave the scene, he refused to back down, insisting on doing his job.

However, as he was departing with a colleague, Abdul Baaki Abukari allegedly slashed his neck with a sharp object, believed to be a blade.

The incident has been reported to the Yendi police divisional command for investigation.

This disturbing attack on a journalist has raised concerns about press freedom and political violence.
