The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ablekuma North Constituency has firmly maintained that the initial declaration of their candidate, Ewura Abena Aubyn, as the Member of Parliament-elect remains valid, despite the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to nullify the results.

The EC had annulled the earlier declarations in Ablekuma North and eight other constituencies following disputes raised by the New Patriotic Party (NPP). As part of the resolution process, a re-collation exercise was carried out on Saturday, December 21, at the Regional Collation Centre.
Of the nine constituencies involved, seven were declared in favour of the NPP, leaving Ablekuma North and another constituency without declared winners.
With no officially recognized MP-elect in Ablekuma North, the NDC has reinforced its position, arguing that the EC does not have the authority to overturn the initial declaration. The party contends that any challenge to the results should have been pursued through legal channels in court.
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, December 22, the NDC leadership in Ablekuma North accused the EC of undermining democratic principles and warned against attempts to “subvert the will of the people.” They vowed to lawfully resist any actions they consider unlawful.
Ewura Abena Aubyn echoed the party’s stance, asserting that the initial declaration was a true reflection of the people’s choice in the constituency. She called on the EC to uphold the integrity of its processes and demanded that the initial results be respected.
“Ewurabena Aubynn has been duly elected as the MP reflecting the will of the people. Yesterday, our dear nation witnessed the collation or recollation and re-declaration of already declared NDC members of parliament-elect in seven out of nine parliamentary results in favour of the NPP.
“Is this the case of the EC bent on favouring the NPP through fair or foul means? It is a big question. We urge our EC to adhere to the principles of transparency, accountability, and fairness. The people of Ablekuma North deserve nothing less. We stand resolute in protecting this mandate and will lawfully resist any effort to subvert the people’s choice.
The Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress(NDC) in Ablekuma North constituency Daniel Yaw Tornyigah stated: “We want to reiterate this, we will lawfully reject and stand in the way of them trying to subject the will of the people of Ablekuma North,”
Madam Ewura Abena Aubyn expressed concern that the developments surrounding the re-collation exercise tarnish the credibility of the Electoral Commission. She further called for strict adherence to electoral laws.
