Abor Senior High Technical School (ABORSCO) in Ghana’s Volta Region is launching an exchange program with a German technical school, Staatliche Berufsschule Miltenberg-Obernburg.

This initiative, facilitated by Rising Lions of Ghana and the German Embassy, aims to enhance carpentry skills and explore opportunities. Despite being under-resourced, ABORSCO emerged victorious in a competition among five schools, earning this opportunity.

The exchange program allows five students from each school to spend ten days in the partner country, interacting with peers and learning new techniques.

The German students, accompanied by their teacher, Ms. Katrin Kempf, and a representative from Rising Lions, Germany, Ms. Angelica Bick, spent ten days at ABORSCO.

They engaged in cultural exchange, learned about Ghanaian carpentry methods, and executed a project using simple tools.

The Ghanaian students will visit Germany in July, where they will be exposed to modern carpentry techniques, including power tools and machines.

Director of Rising Lions, Ghana, Mr. Peter Attipoe, emphasized the need to empower carpenters and change the narrative that technical courses are inferior.

He praised the German students for their adaptability and commended the collaboration as a wake-up call to recognize the value of all professions.

The Headmaster of ABORSCO, Mr. Felix Joseph Darkey, expressed optimism about the collaboration’s potential to bring development to the school, including improved tools, textbooks, and infrastructure.

He urged the beneficiary students to be disciplined and focused during their visit to Germany.

The German teacher, Ms. Katrin Kempf, found the visit revealing, acknowledging that both schools have much to share.

The Representative of Rising Lions, Germany, Ms. Angelica Bick, encouraged girls to pursue male-dominated professions like carpentry.

The students from both countries agreed that there is much to learn from each other.

The visit culminated in a project showcase, with the German team receiving Kente stoles as a symbol of appreciation.

This exchange program aims to foster a paradigm shift in the perception of technical education and empower students to explore new opportunities.
