Unidentified individuals have reportedly left their infants at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, as stated by local news sources. These babies, who were brought to the hospital about two months ago by anonymous individuals, have not yet been reunited with their biological parents. As efforts to trace the parents remain unsuccessful, the hospital’s nursing staff has taken it upon themselves to provide care for these infants.
Among the infants is Ransford Sackey, whose mother abandoned him at the facility upon discovering that he was born with a deformity – he only had one arm and limb. This deformity is a result of a failed attempted abortion by the mother. She fled, leaving her baby behind, after deceiving the attending nurses by pretending to run an errand outside the clinic. Adding complexity to the situation, she provided the nurses with false contact information.
In another news development, a second baby named Kelvin Walters was found abandoned and malnourished with measles on a beach in Accra. A team of police officers took him to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. Healthcare professionals at the hospital have disclosed that arrangements are being made to transfer the care of these babies to the Social Welfare Department in the near future.
