The High Court in Accra has varied the bail conditions of former National Petroleum Authority (NPA) Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Mustapha Hamid, and nine others who are facing criminal charges over the alleged extortion of oil marketing companies.
The accused persons were initially granted bail on December 9, 2025, under conditions that required them to report periodically to the Registrar of the Court.
However, following an application by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), the court amended those conditions.
Moving the application, the OSP argued that requiring the accused to report instead to the lead investigator would enhance effective monitoring and tracking of the accused persons throughout the proceedings.
In its ruling, the court ordered that the accused persons shall now report to the lead investigator on the first and third Tuesdays of every month until the commencement of trial.
The investigator is further directed to file monthly returns with the court.
Once the trial begins, the accused will be required to report only on the first Tuesday of each month, as this will coincide with scheduled court hearings.
The court also directed that a stop list be placed at all entry points to prevent the accused from leaving the jurisdiction without authorisation.
