The Accra Sports Stadium has undergone a swift transformation following renovations, raising expectations that it will be ready to host the Black Stars’ upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Sudan.

The National Sports Authority (NSA) had closed the Accra Sports Stadium for essential repairs, alongside other major venues like Baba Yara Stadium and Cape Coast Stadium.

This decision came after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) withdrew its temporary approval for Baba Yara Stadium to host category 3 games, following Ghana’s defeat to Angola in their opening AFCON qualifier. The poor condition of the pitch had faced widespread criticism.

With only 10 days left before the crucial qualifier, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) raced against time to secure a suitable venue.

Images of the newly renovated pitch at Accra Sports Stadium have recently surfaced on social media, impressing many fans who have praised the rapid improvements.

Despite the progress, some fans remain cautious, recalling similar concerns about the Baba Yara Stadium’s condition before the Angola match, which ultimately showcased a bumpy playing surface.

Currently, the Black Stars are positioned third in Group F after a draw and a loss in their opening two matches. The upcoming game against Sudan is regarded as crucial for their chances of qualifying for the tournament.
