Achimota School has been held responsible for the death of a student due to negligence about eight years ago.

In November 2016, 15-year-old Kervin Kofi Moses fell ill and visited the school clinic, complaining of symptoms like malaria.

Instead of receiving proper medical care, he was given ibuprofen and told he didn’t have malaria.

Concerned about his condition, Kervin called his mother, who asked the school’s Housemaster for permission to take him to the hospital.

The Housemaster refused. Despite Kervin’s mother’s repeated attempts to check on him, many of her messages were ignored.

Kervin was finally taken to Achimota Hospital on December 2, 2016, and later transferred to 37 Military Hospital, where he died on December 4, 2016.

The court ruled that Achimota School and its Housemaster failed in their duty to care for Kervin’s health, leading to his death.

As a result, they must pay GH¢ 400,000 for general damages and GH¢ 200,000 for causing his death due to negligence.
