After her Weekends with Adele residency show in Las Vegas concludes on November 23, English singer/songwriter Adele plans to take a substantial hiatus from music.

This residency presents her fans with a final opportunity to experience her enduring performance before she takes a break.

Speaking to Germany’s ZDF and reported by Billboard.com, Adele, 36, dropped the shocking news, “I don’t have any plans for new music at all.” In fact, the star who said she “doesn’t like being famous,” added, “I want a big break after this and I think I want to do other creative things, just for a little while.”

Adele began her Weekends run at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in November 2022 and will conclude with her final scheduled performance on November 23. Before her music hiatus, she will perform a series of gigs in Munich at a specially built 80,000-capacity venue on August 2, 3, 9, 10, 14, 16, 23, 24, 30, and 31.

Reflecting on her extensive run of 100 live shows over the past two years, she expressed feeling as if her ‘tank is quite empty.

After announcing the initial run of Munich shows, Adele shared on Instagram, ‘So a few months ago I got a call about a summer run of shows. I’ve been content with my shows in London’s Hyde Park and my residency in Vegas, so I hadn’t made any other plans.

However, I was too curious not to follow up and indulge in this idea—a one-off, bespoke pop-up stadium designed around whatever show I want to put on.’

The singer, who hasn’t embarked on a world tour since her 2016-2017 stint supporting her album 25, has a habit of taking time for herself between albums and tours.

Her periods away from the public eye have lengthened over time, from three years between her debut album, 19 (2008), and 21 (2011), to four years between 21 and 25 (2015), and then six years until 30 (2021).

In December, Adele, mother of 11-year-old Angelo, told The Hollywood Reporter, “I have nothing to say yet. I haven’t even thought about it… I have to wait for a feeling. If I get antsy, that’s when I know I have to go to the studio, and right now I’m the opposite of antsy.”

In the same interview, Adele mentioned her interest in a specific unnamed movie role, stating, ‘The guy whose movie it would be, he’s not mentally ready to write the script for it… I bug him every now and then about it, but he’s just not there yet. But that’s the only role I ever want. Because I think I’d nail it. I think I’d do really, really, really good at it.’

In January, during one of her Weekends shows, Adele shared with the audience, ‘I just don’t think I’m gonna write an album for quite some time,’ hinting that when she does, she might be ready to hit the road properly again.

A spokesperson for Adele did not respond to Billboard’s request for additional comment on her future plans at a recent press conference.
