Former Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has officially entered the contest for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential flagbearer position, picking up nomination forms ahead of the party’s primaries scheduled for January 2026.

Dr. Adutwum, who served under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is aiming to lead the party into the 2028 general elections. The Bosomtwe MP is well-known for his role in advancing education reforms, with a strong focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and expanding access to secondary education.

His candidacy adds to the growing list of aspirants seeking to succeed the current party leadership and is expected to spark debate within the NPP, with supporters highlighting his technocratic skills and public service record.

Meanwhile, on August 13, over 490 constituency youth organisers both substantive and deputies  picked up nomination forms for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. The group described Dr. Bawumia as the party’s strongest hope for victory in 2028, citing his “exceptional leadership, proven track record, and vision for Ghana’s future.”

Their collective show of support follows a strategic meeting held on July 29, 2025, which brought together youth organisers from constituencies across the country.
