Supporters of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary candidate for Agona West, Christopher Arthur and Cynthia Morrison, are urging the police to conduct a comprehensive investigation to identify and arrest the person responsible for firing a gun during a clash in the constituency on Sunday, October 27.
The incident left one person with gunshot wounds and several others with minor injuries after gunfire erupted at a mini-rally in Agona Swedru.
Supporters of Chris Arthur were returning to Agona Swedru from a campaign event in Otinkorang, a nearby community within Agona West, when they encountered supporters of Cynthia Morrison, who were holding a mini-rally.
In response, a representative from Arthur’s team made a direct appeal for police intervention, suggesting that the altercation was provoked by an individual identified only as “Adolf.”
They expressed hope that a swift investigation would not only lead to the arrest of the shooter but also help prevent further violence as tensions rise in the lead-up to the elections.
Meanwhile, the Central Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into the incident to ensure that justice is served and to restore calm among residents and party supporters in the area.
“Our appeal to the police is that even though we do not know the perpetrators of the gunshot, we are very much aware of the identity or we have identified the person who threw the alcoholic drink on the driver. And so we expect the police to act according to the report we have given.
“We trust also the investigative skills of the police and we expect the police to do a thorough investigation into this matter to get the perpetrators into book. And we believe that when this is done, there will be peace.
“There will be peace. The peace that we are enjoying in Agona West will continue. Adolf is one of the bodyguards of Cynthia Morrison and he is the one who threw the alcoholic drink onto the driver of the bus or the van that is part of the campaign tour of Christopher Arthur.”
Cynthia Morrison’s representative on the side also called for investigations to apprehend the perpetrators.
“After the incident, the MP has been very worried. She is a woman. She has affection for her constituents. And she thinks that this is not the way to go. So, she has been very much worried and we are calling on the police to take charge of this investigation.
“We are calling on the police to bring the perpetrators to justice. We want the truth to be established so that at the end of the day, everybody can go about his campaign normally. This will not deter her from going on with her campaign. She is going to progress and touch base at every electoral area.”
