Sudan head coach Kwesi Appiah has continued his impressive run with the Falcons of Jediane, securing a vital win against Niger in their opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

In their Group F opener, Sudan started strong, clinching all three points thanks to Abobaker Mamoun Eisa’s decisive goal in the 51st minute, leading to a 1-0 victory.
This win temporarily places Sudan at the top of the group standings, pending the outcome of Thursday’s match between Ghana and Angola.
For Kwesi Appiah and his team, this result is a significant step toward qualifying for the tournament in Morocco, especially after missing out on the previous edition in Ivory Coast.
The Falcons of Jediane were eliminated in the group stage of the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon, and Kwesi Appiah hopes that this victory over Niger will mark the beginning of their resurgence.
However, Appiah will soon face the challenge of going up against his former team, the Black Stars of Ghana, in later qualifiers.
Before that, Sudan will take on Angola in their second match of the campaign.
Since his appointment, James Kwesi Appiah has had a remarkable start with Sudan, remaining unbeaten in competitive matches.
Over his last five games, including three in World Cup qualifiers, Appiah has led Sudan to four wins and one draw, underscoring his impact on the team.
