In a show of unity ahead of the 2024 elections, former Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, will accompany the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on a campaign tour through the Ashanti Region.

Dr. Akoto’s participation is expected to reinforce the campaign’s message and energize the NPP’s base in its stronghold, highlighting the party’s goal to “break the 8” and secure a historic third consecutive term.
With a background in agricultural economics and as the son of Baffour Osei Akoto, a notable figure in the UP tradition, Dr. Akoto brings additional gravitas to the NPP’s outreach. Party insiders believe his involvement will add strategic depth to the campaign as it progresses through the region.
The tour, beginning on November 4, 2024, and spanning two weeks, will focus on Dr. Bawumia’s development agenda, emphasizing a digital economy, a robust credit system for job creation, a business-friendly tax regime, environmental initiatives, and the continuation of the “gold-for-oil” policy to stabilize the cedi.
Dr. Akoto, often called a “friend of farmers,” will highlight the significant support and progress made in Ghana’s agricultural sector under the Akufo-Addo administration.
His message will underscore policies and investments that have benefited Ghana’s 3.6 million farmers, urging them to support continuity in government.
His decision to join Dr. Bawumia on the tour also signals the NPP’s united front, as Dr. Akoto and eight other contenders in the presidential primaries now rally behind the flagbearer. This unity aims to project a cohesive campaign to voters.
This phase of the NPP’s Ashanti Region tour is essential for mobilizing party members and gaining support in one of Ghana’s most pivotal regions as the 2024 elections approach.
