Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central and former New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, has called on Ghanaians to place their trust in the party’s 2024 Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, ahead of the December elections.

He emphasized that supporting Dr. Bawumia is crucial for ensuring the sustainability of the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy.

In a statement reflecting on the transformative power of education, Agyapong shared his personal experiences, noting how education paved the way for his success.

He highlighted the struggles of some classmates who faced financial barriers and are now enduring economic hardships, underlining the critical role of the Free SHS program in providing opportunities for the youth in Ghana.

Agyapong made these remarks during a campaign event on October 31, 2024, where he joined the NPP’s Vice Presidential Candidate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, to engage with traders and market women in the Okaikwei North Constituency.

The Assin Central MP cautioned voters about the historical opposition of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to the Free SHS policy, especially under their candidate, John Dramani Mahama.

He asserted that the policy would be at risk if the NDC were to regain power. “A political party that vigorously campaigned against Free SHS cannot be trusted with its future.

The best way to protect Free SHS is for Ghanaians to vote for H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the NPP in the upcoming polls,” he stated.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh reinforced Agyapong’s message, reminding the audience of the NDC’s past opposition to Free SHS and their numerous advertisements against the initiative.

He highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to alleviate the cost of living and assured traders that a Bawumia-led administration would focus on business-friendly policies to enhance livelihoods.

In closing, Dr. Prempeh urged attendees to decisively support Dr. Bawumia and the NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate, Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah, for the advancement of the Okaikwei North constituency.
