Nana Akomea, Deputy Chairman of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team, has dismissed threats from top NDC officials to prosecute Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government members for corruption as mere political rhetoric.
In an Asempa FM interview on Tuesday, Akomea confidently stated that even if the NDC wins the 2024 presidential election, they will not dare touch any NPP government member.
He drew parallels with the 2008 general elections when the NDC made similar promises to prosecute John Agyekum Kufuor’s government officials for corruption, but failed to deliver on their promise once in power.

Akomea, a former Information Minister and current STC Managing Director, pointed out that the NDC’s 2008 campaign promises included vows to prosecute corrupt officials, but when they came to power, they claimed that late President Prof. John Evans Atta Mills wanted to let sleeping dogs lie.
“If you ask them, they tell you that the president at that time decided not to take action. Can you imagine? You said the people had done wrong, you campaigned that when you come to power, you would deal with all those who stole from the state, but when you were given power, you said your president said no. Have you heard this before?” he quizzed.
Akomea made these remarks in response to Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the NDC’s 2024 running mate, reiterating the party’s commitment to holding corrupt government officials accountable.
According to her, the decision to punish those responsible for looting the state is based on the principles of accountability and the wishes of Ghanaians.
“John and I have agreed that whoever has participated in the plunder of the state must be held accountable. This is not a threat; it is a promise, premised on the wishes of our citizens across the various political and social divides, and hinged on the principle of accountability,” she stated during her inaugural address on April 24, 2024.
