The late Akua Donkor, founder of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), was diagnosed with respiratory problems at Nsawam Hospital before she passed away.
This information was shared by Ernest Frimpong Manso, also known as Adakabre, during an appearance on TV3’s morning show, TV3 New Day.
Adakabre, who served as Akua Donkor’s running mate in the 2020 elections, mentioned that she was subsequently referred to Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital), where she sadly passed away.
Akua Donkor died after 10 PM on Monday, October 28, 2024. The news of her death spread rapidly on social media, with many expressing condolences to her family and supporters.
There has been widespread curiosity about the cause of her death, as there had been no prior reports regarding her health.
There is also some confusion regarding her age, with various reports suggesting she was either 83, 69, or 70 years old.
Further complicating matters, the family head, Nana Yaw Poku, stated in an interview that Akua Donkor was actually 90 years old.
Despite the discrepancies, one fact remains clear: Akua Donkor significantly impacted Ghanaian politics.
At the time of her passing, she was actively campaigning for the 2024 elections, where she was listed as number 3 on the ballot, just 39 days before the election date.
