Akufo-Addo announces Govt transition team

In accordance with the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845), President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has unveiled the government’s Transition Team to oversee the smooth transfer of executive authority to the incoming administration.

The team, which includes key government officials and institutional leaders, is as follows:

  • Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare – Chief of Staff (Team Co-Chairperson)
  • Godfred Yeboah Dame – Attorney-General
  • Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu – Minister for Presidential Affairs
  • Hon. Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam – Minister for Finance
  • Hon. Henry Quartey – Minister for the Interior
  • Hon. Dominic Nitiwul – Minister for Defence
  • Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey – Minister for Foreign Affairs
  • Hon. Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah – Minister for Local Government
  • Hon. Albert Kan Dapaah – Minister for National Security

Additional members include:

  • Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh – Head of Civil Service
  • Dr. Nana Ato Arthur – Head of Local Government Service
  • Ambassador Mercy Debrah-Karikari – Secretary to the Cabinet
  • Mr. Edward Asomani – National Security Coordinator

The Transition Team will officially begin its work following its inauguration on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.

The meeting will bring together President Akufo-Addo and President-elect John Dramani Mahama, who will serve as Co-Chairpersons. In the absence of the President, Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare will act as Co-Chairperson.

This initiative highlights the government’s dedication to ensuring a seamless and peaceful transition of power.

Furthermore, the President has appointed former Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, to the Advisory Council, with the current Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, as Chairperson.

The President-elect also announced the members of his side of the Transition Team earlier today, ensuring balanced representation as the teams work together to maintain governance stability.

President Akufo-Addo reaffirmed his commitment to a smooth transition process, emphasizing its importance in strengthening Ghana’s democratic credentials. The Transition Team is tasked with facilitating an efficient handover to preserve continuity and foster national unity.
