President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called on universities in Ghana to strengthen their connections with industry and government to ensure that their research and teaching support the nation’s development goals.

Speaking on Thursday, August 22, 2024, after inaugurating the Silver Jubilee Building at the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale, the President emphasized that his government’s significant investments in education are aimed at transforming the nation.
He highlighted the impact of the No Guarantor Policy, which has greatly increased access to tertiary education by removing financial barriers for many young Ghanaians.
The President also noted that “our considerable support for research and academic development underscores our belief in the power of knowledge to drive national progress.”
The commissioning, he said, is a significant milestone that underscores his commitment to advancing education in Ghana.
“This three-storey complex, which houses lecture halls and offices, is not just a building; it symbolizes our shared vision for a brighter future and our dedication to providing quality education for all.
“I am proud to have fulfilled the promise I made in 2018 during UDS’s 25th-anniversary celebration, ensuring that this institution continues to thrive as a hub for innovation and intellectual growth.
“As we celebrate this achievement, I urge all universities in Ghana to strengthen their ties with industry and government to ensure that their research and teaching align with our nation’s development goals.
“Together, we are building a brighter future for Ghana, and I am confident that with continued investment in education, we can unleash the full potential of our young people and propel our country to greater heights,” he wrote on Facebook after the commissioning.
