President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has granted approval for visa-free entry to Ghana for all African nationals. The executive approval was given on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.

With this move, Ghana joins Rwanda, Seychelles, The Gambia, and Benin as the only African nations offering visa-free entry to all African passport holders.

This policy is part of Akufo-Addo’s commitment, made during the Africa Prosperity Dialogues (APD 2024), to promote free movement of people, goods, and services across Africa, driving the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and enhancing economic integration.

The new policy is set to take effect before the end of Akufo-Addo’s term on January 6, 2025.

President Akufo-Addo stressed Ghana’s commitment to the visa-free initiative in his APD 2024 keynote address, delivered under the theme “Developing Prosperity in Africa: Produce, Add Value, and Trade.”

“Many of you had to acquire a visa to attend this event,” he said, adding that “The government of Ghana is committed to ensuring visa-free travel for all Africans, and the process has begun to implement the policy this year.”
