President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has highlighted his administration’s substantial achievements in the health sector, particularly the expansion of hospital infrastructure.

He noted that ongoing projects, including the Agenda 111 initiative, would further enhance healthcare services across Ghana.

Speaking at the commissioning of the new Urology and Nephrology Centre of Excellence at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on October 18, 2024, President Akufo-Addo emphasized that his government’s investments have resulted in a significant increase in hospital beds across the country.

He revealed that hospital bed capacity had grown from 24,153 in 2016 to 32,818 by August 2024, marking a 36% rise.

The President assured the public that the government’s ongoing Agenda 111 project, aimed at building hospitals nationwide, would contribute further to this progress.

He also pointed out reductions in maternal, adolescent, and child mortality rates as key indicators of the country’s improving healthcare delivery.

“We’ve added 8,665 hospital beds between 2017 and August 2024, and this doesn’t include the beds that will come with the Agenda 111 Project,” he stated. He also noted that the Institutional Maternal Mortality Ratio (IMMR) had improved, declining from 127.3 deaths per 100 live births in 2018 to 102.1 in recent years.

The new Urology and Nephrology Centre at Korle Bu, President Akufo-Addo added, is part of the broader plan to modernize healthcare services and ensure that the country’s health system is prepared to meet the needs of a growing population.
