This initiative, established under the new NSS Act 1119, reflects the President’s commitment to youth development and national unity, which have been central to his administration since he took office in 2017.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has inaugurated the newly established National Service Authority, marking a significant step towards empowering Ghana’s youth.
The President has consistently championed programs aimed at harnessing the potential of young people, believing their talents are essential for Ghana’s future progress.
During the inauguration, he emphasized that transforming the National Service Scheme into a fully-fledged authority is the culmination of years of effort.
“It’s no coincidence that various countries, including the USA, UK, Japan, and our neighbors like Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, and Kenya, have implemented national or youth service programs as strategic tools for development,” he stated.
The National Service Scheme has provided young Ghanaians with opportunities to contribute to the country’s socio-economic development while fostering a sense of responsibility and civic duty.
Each year, around 150,000 graduates are deployed, with 50,000 serving in the education sector alone.
This program not only aids national development but also saves the country approximately three billion cedis annually in wage costs.
With the establishment of the National Service Authority, the scheme is poised to take on a broader role in nation-building. The authority will not only mobilize and deploy service personnel but also equip them with employable skills, enhancing their prospects post-service.
Looking ahead, the President expressed confidence that the next administration, potentially led by his Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will build upon this foundation, ensuring the National Service Authority continues to be a vital force for youth and national development.
In conclusion, he stated that the nation’s progress relies heavily on the skills, creativity, and innovative potential of its youth, and the National Service Authority will be instrumental in nurturing this talent and collaborating with key institutions to drive Ghana’s socio-economic transformation.
