Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, Member of Parliament for Odododiodioo, has criticized outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, claiming that he leaves no substantial legacy behind as his tenure comes to a close.

Vanderpuye accused the president of relying on self-praise and inflated claims of achievements instead of delivering meaningful results. Speaking on Eyewitness News on Friday, January 3, 2025, the MP remarked, “The President was consistent in one thing: praising himself when he didn’t deserve praise and presenting figures and scenarios that were not factual.”

The MP also criticized Akufo-Addo’s handling of sports development, calling it a disappointment. He stated that under the president’s leadership, the sector suffered neglect and failed to meet the expectations of Ghanaians.

Vanderpuye’s comments came as President Akufo-Addo delivered his final State of the Nation Address, reflecting on his administration’s performance over the past eight years.

“On the issue of sports, for example, a president who always wants to be seen as a person who is perfect and has performed excellently. In the area of sports where he has performed so poorly, how would you want him to talk about it? This is because he accepts the fact that sports is one area where he has performed so poorly.

“Youth development is also one area the government has performed so poorly. This is because in spite of all the so-called interventions; NABCO, planting for food and jobs, all indicators show that the president failed in those areas.”

The president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, presented his final State of the Nations Address in Parliament on Friday, January 3.

In his presentation, Akufo-Addo stated that serving as the President of Ghana has been the greatest honour of his life, describing it as one marked by significant challenges and triumphs.

He acknowledged that his time in office had demanded his full energy, commitment, and love for the country.
