In an effort to improve the welfare of Ghana’s security personnel, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commissioned 320 new housing units for the Police Service in Tesano, Accra.

During the event, President Akufo-Addo congratulated Commissioner of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno on his promotion to Deputy Inspector General of Police for Operations, expressing confidence in Yohuno’s continued dedication to enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of the police force.

The ceremony marked the realization of a vision initiated in 2018 during President Akufo-Addo’s first term. The Security Services Housing Project is designed to provide decent housing for the nation’s dedicated security personnel. President Akufo-Addo stated, “These 320 housing units symbolize our resolve to ensure that those who risk their lives daily to protect us have a safe and comfortable place to call home.”

Emphasizing the importance of adequate housing, President Akufo-Addo noted that decent accommodation greatly enhances police officers’ morale and effectiveness. He pointed out that well-housed officers are more motivated and productive. With these new units, the government aims to ensure that officers can concentrate on their vital duties without the added concern of poor living conditions.

The inauguration of these housing units reflects the Akufo-Addo administration’s commitment to addressing the housing deficit within the security services. Recognizing the challenges faced by police officers and their families, the President reiterated the government’s dedication to finding solutions to these issues. This initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure that all Ghanaians, regardless of profession or rank, have access to decent and affordable housing.

The President reviewed the history of the Security Services Housing Programme, which commenced in 2018 with the goal of increasing housing for security personnel. To date, the Ministry of Works and Housing has completed 536 units under Phases I and II. Phase I, finished in 2014, delivered 168 units for the Bureau of National Investigations in Tema, while Phase II, completed in 2018, provided 368 units for the Ghana Navy in Tema Newtown.

The event today celebrates the completion of Phase III, which consists of 320 new housing units at the Tesano Police Training School. This phase includes 112 two-bedroom apartments, 208 three-bedroom apartments, an officers’ mess, a social center, two multipurpose playing courts, and a kindergarten. These modern facilities are designed to improve the quality of life for police officers and their families, creating a supportive environment that enhances their operational readiness and motivation.

President Akufo-Addo highlighted that the benefits of this project go beyond providing shelter. By improving living conditions, the initiative aims to offer a sense of security and stability to officers and their families, which he believes will enhance their commitment to their duties.

This effort is part of a larger strategy to strengthen security agencies, including the provision of modern equipment, advanced training, and better working conditions.

Recognizing the collaborative efforts that made the project possible, President Akufo-Addo praised the Ministry of Works and Housing, the Ministry of the Interior, the Police Service, and all other involved stakeholders. Their combined efforts were crucial to the successful completion of the housing units.

In his closing remarks, President Akufo-Addo addressed the officers who will soon move into the new units, describing the housing as a reward for their dedication and service to the nation. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing the living conditions of all security personnel, noting that this commissioning is part of broader efforts to ensure they are well-prepared to serve.

The President officially launched Phase III of the Security Services Housing Project and expressed hope for continued collaboration to build a Ghana where every citizen feels safe, secure, and valued. He concluded with a blessing for both the Police Service and the nation, urging ongoing efforts towards national development.

“May God bless the Police Service, and us all, and may God bless our homeland Ghana, and make her great and strong,” President Akufo-Addo concluded.
