President Nana Akufo-Addo has called on former President John Dramani Mahama to engage in a public debate with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, emphasizing the need for transparency as Ghanaians prepare for the upcoming elections.
During his recent tour of the Northern Region, Akufo-Addo praised Bawumia as a capable and trustworthy leader, urging Mahama to participate in the debate.

Akufo-Addo believes that such a debate would help voters make an informed choice by allowing them to hear directly from both candidates.
He questioned why Mahama has not accepted the challenge, suggesting that he might be avoiding a confrontation with Bawumia’s arguments and achievements.
“The people of Ghana deserve the debate so they can see who is doing what and who is saying what. Mr. Mahama, which is which? What should the Ghanaian people take from you as your position on the Free SHS policy? Is it safe with you, and are you going to continue with it, or are you going to cancel it?” Akufo-Addo said, stressing the need for clarity on such issues.
He emphasized that a debate is crucial for democracy, offering both candidates the opportunity to share their visions for Ghana’s future.
The President reiterated that Mahama’s refusal to debate is a disservice to Ghanaians, who are eager for a clear discussion of key national issues.
