Isaac Adjei Mensah, a former Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways and now the Ranking Member of the Select Committee on Roads and Transport, disagrees with President Akufo-Addo’s claim that his government built 12,830 kilometers of roads.

He says the claim is wrong and meant to influence voters before the 2024 elections.

President Akufo-Addo made this statement during the opening of the 40.4km Bechem-Techimantia-Akomadan road in the Ahafo Region, where he highlighted improvements in the country’s road network.

The President boasted about his achievements in road development, claiming that his government has completed 12,830 kilometers of roads across the country, including six interchanges.

He also mentioned that more roads are currently being built and will be finished by 2025.

Mr. Adjei Mensah, in an interview with Onua News on July 18, disagreed with the President’s statement.

He criticized President Akufo-Addo’s accomplishments in road infrastructure, calling them insignificant and completely wrong.

He explained that the NPP administration’s reported expansion of the road network to 94,203.17km is tentative and incorrect.

The Wassa East lawmaker stated that from 2017 to 2024, the administration of President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia constructed a total of 6,977 kilometers of roads, not the claimed 12,830 kilometers.

He mentioned that former President John Mahama, in just one term, outpaced President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia’s two terms by constructing a total of 8,118 kilometers of roads.

He expressed confidence that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will win the upcoming December 7 elections to finish all the unfinished road projects in the country, including incomplete interchanges.
