Akyem Kade notorious armed robbers attack Catholic priest, others

A notorious highway robbery group, who are prominent for intimidating motorists around Akyem Kade in the Eastern Region have yet again launched another fresh attack on Thursday night.

As gathered by GhanaTalksRadio, the robbers unleashed an unconventional attack as they mounted roadblocks on Asuom to Kade Road and opened fire at two approaching vehicles, including one driven by a Catholic priests.

Available information indicates that Abubakari Sule (37 years old) driving a car, told the police that on the day of the event, at about 7:00 pm, as he conveyed six people from Asuom to Kade in an unregistered Honda CRV, suddenly found out that the road was blocked by firewood. This prompted him to slow down as eight armed robbers on masks emerged from the bush and opened fire on his car.

He made a narrow escape but the bullet however, damaged his windshield, the rear glass on the driver’s, and the front tires were deflated.

Following his report, the Kade District Police Officer, DSP Stephen Abanga immediately took four-armed police officers to the crime scene, but the robbers had fled before his arrival. The police recovered three unused BBB cartridges and three empty BBB cartridges from the scene.

Later on, a Catholic Priest, Emmanuel Angmor encountered 6 armed robbers as he was driving a Nissan pickup truck with registration number GN 8091-14, at approximately 7:25pm, while returning from Abaam to Asoom Township.

He told the police that the robbers fired on the passenger side door, the rear windshield, and the front tire on the driver’s side, which caused huge ruins.

The police patrol went to sort out the area and found 3 used and 3 unused BBB ammunition boxes, but not a single robber. No arrest was therefore effected.

Sergeant Francis Gomado, the Acting Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Region Police Command, confirmed the incident and said that efforts are being made to arrest the suspect. He called on residents of the area to help the police provide important information to help arrest the notorious robbery group.
