A group of young men, believed to be supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), stormed the New Juaben South Municipal Assembly on Wednesday, January 8, and locked the offices of several government agencies.

These included the National Identification Authority (NIA), National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), National Service Secretariat (NSS), and the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

The group later attempted similar actions at the regional offices of these institutions. While no violence was recorded, staff members were left shaken by the events.

The Koforidua Divisional Police Commander, supported by armed officers, including the Counter-Terrorism Unit, acted swiftly to restore order and prevent further disruptions.

While the group’s motives remain unclear, Channel One News sources suggest parallels with similar incidents in 2017, targeting politically affiliated individuals during a change in government.

Calm has since been restored, and staff have resumed their normal duties.
