Ruben Amorim has expressed disappointment over Marcus Rashford’s public announcement of his desire to leave Manchester United, stating that he would have preferred the forward to approach him directly.
Rashford, who is set to miss United’s Carabao Cup quarter-final against Tottenham on Thursday after being excluded from the squad for the Manchester derby, revealed on Tuesday that he is seeking a “new challenge.”
Despite this, Amorim reiterated his belief in Rashford’s talent and commitment to helping him regain his best form. “We are better with Marcus Rashford, that is simple.

This club needs big talent, and he is a big talent,” Amorim said. “Nothing has changed; Marcus is still a Manchester United player.”
Rashford’s comments have sparked transfer rumors, with several clubs reportedly interested in him ahead of the January window. Manchester United is said to value him at over £40 million, though a loan move is unlikely due to financial regulations.
Clubs such as Barcelona, PSG, and Premier League sides like Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea, and Manchester City are said to be monitoring the situation, alongside top Saudi Arabian clubs like Al-Ittihad and Al-Nassr.
Amorim acknowledged that he had not spoken directly with Rashford but expressed his wish that the player had raised his concerns privately. “If it were me, I would speak with the manager,” Amorim said, adding, “But let’s focus on Tottenham. At the moment, I’ll decide what to do—I’m a little emotional about this.”
Meanwhile, Alejandro Garnacho, dropped alongside Rashford for the Manchester derby, has returned to the squad after impressing in training. “He trained well and seems a little upset with me, which is perfect. I would feel the same. He’s ready for this game,” Amorim noted.
However, United suffered another setback with Mason Mount, who consulted a specialist on Wednesday after sustaining an injury during the Manchester derby. “He’s sad, and we need to support him,” Amorim said.
