Angola’s head coach, Pedro Goncalves, has cast serious doubt over Ghana’s prospects of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), describing their chances as “low to impossible.”

His comments come as a setback for the Black Stars, who are already struggling to secure a spot in the tournament.

Goncalves’ stark assessment is based on Ghana’s recent poor performance in the qualifiers, where the team has failed to gain momentum.

The Black Stars, four-time AFCON champions, have managed only two points from their last four matches, placing them third in Group F.

With Angola and Sudan as frontrunners to advance from the group, Goncalves believes Ghana’s path to qualification is nearly out of reach, despite the nation’s history as an African football powerhouse.

“While Ghana is undoubtedly a strong contender, their chances of qualifying are low to impossible at the moment,” Goncalves remarked.

As Angola prepares to host Ghana in Luanda for their next match, they aim to maintain their perfect qualifying record, while Ghana faces a critical challenge to keep their AFCON hopes alive.

The Black Stars must win their remaining games and rely on Sudan dropping points to have a shot at qualifying.
