Another person has been killed in Bawku following a shootout in the Mazema enclave late Tuesday night.
The deceased, identified as Atengani, was reportedly caught in crossfire involving the military. This brings the total death toll to 33 since the conflict resurfaced in October 2024.
The area is under a 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. curfew imposed by security agencies. Tensions remain high, with frequent shootings, particularly during curfew hours.
Both residents and security forces continue to struggle to contain the violence.
The conflict escalated after rival chief Alhaji Seidu Abagre’s return from exile and recent ambushes targeting travelers, further fueling tensions in the region.
