An unidentified group clashed with police on Friday afternoon during the “Concerned Citizens Against Galamsey” protest.
The confrontation occurred when a group claiming to be affiliated with the Chief Imam attempted to breach a police barricade at the Kawukudi intersection leading to the 37-bound section in Accra.
The police had set up the blockade to manage the #stopgalamseynow protesters, who had paused briefly en route to the Kanda highway.

Despite the police presence, the large group forcefully dismantled the barricades and proceeded through the area.
The second day of the Concerned Citizens Against Galamsey protest began with high energy as demonstrators gathered for a morale-boosting session before marching through Accra to demand urgent action against illegal mining practices.

Organized by the pressure group Concerned Citizens Against Galamsey, the protest aims to draw attention to the significant environmental damage caused by illegal mining activities, commonly referred to as galamsey.

The atmosphere was lively, with young participants filling the space with chants, songs, and drumming to invigorate the crowd before they set off on their march.
The demonstrators plan to submit a petition to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources on Friday, October 4.
