Deputy Ranking Member on the Education Committee in Parliament, Dr. Clement Apaak, has joined the growing calls for the government to settle its GH¢118 million debt to the West African Examination Council (WAEC), warning of the severe consequences of further delays.

The unpaid arrears have led to the suspension of the 2024 WASSCE results release.
WAEC, in a press statement, urged the government to make the payment promptly in order to carry out repairs on damaged equipment necessary for scanning objective cards, which would allow for the results to be released.
Speaking in an interview with Citi News, Dr. Apaak condemned the government’s failure to address the issue.
“The results of our wards who wrote WASSCE earlier this year are being withheld in abeyance because the government is failing to meet its commitment to WAEC.
“It is condemnable. So we call on the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-NPP government to do the needful by paying WAEC all outstanding indebtedness.
“Failing to do so, as we are witnessing, has dire implications for the future of the students and the academic calendar of our tertiary institutions.”
