The Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has stressed that the fight against illegal mining, or galamsey, can only be won if Ghanaians unite around shared national values.

Apostle Nyamekye noted that without a collective sense of responsibility, efforts to combat this menace will remain ineffective.

Sharing his observations from a visit to galamsey sites, he expressed concern over the inaction of some traditional leaders who, instead of leading the fight, have chosen to turn a blind eye.

He explained that the fear of criticism from their peers, many of whom are involved in illegal mining, has silenced some leaders despite the environmental destruction happening in their communities.

He further highlighted that these conflicting values among the nation’s leadership have significantly worsened the situation.

According to Apostle Nyamekye, a lack of unity on common principles creates division in addressing critical national issues like galamsey.

Speaking to the youth leadership at the Younger Generation Politicians and Leaders Conference held at the Pentecost Convention Centre in Gomoa Fetteh, Apostle Nyamekye urged the younger generation to reject these conflicting values and fully support the fight against illegal mining.

He called on the youth to lead by example, uphold integrity, and advocate for environmental protection, emphasizing their crucial role in shaping the future of the nation.
