The Member of Parliament for Asante-Akim North, Andy Appiah-Kubi, has shared a terrifying experience he endured following his involvement in the 2023 “Ken Must Go” campaign, during which some New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs called for the resignation of then-Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
As a leading figure in the protest, Appiah-Kubi revealed the heavy toll the advocacy took on him, citing threats to his life and serious health challenges.
Speaking on Joy News, he recounted a particularly alarming incident where he suffered a severe health attack late at night, which he believes was connected to his activism.
“At about 2 AM one day, I started having the attack. I struggled to get my phone to call my PA because he was the last person I called. He came with the NADMO director and they put me in a vehicle and took me to the hospital for my doctor to take care of me.
“From there, I didn’t see anything again. Later I heard my name, and he told me that was the third day. All the things that happened, I was told. That got me to be careful. I was told that I had some poisoning. But I have gone through some treatment and I am fine now.
“It is a dangerous enterprise, so you have to always be careful. If you talk to my PA, he will tell you that I don’t even eat outside. It was just on that occasion that I ate food outside.
Meanwhile, Appiah-Kubi, who ran as the candidate for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), in the just-ended December 7 election, lost his seat to an independent contender, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, a businessman and proprietor of Salt FM.
