Armed men have attacked a military training camp in Bamako, Mali’s capital, according to state television ORTM, which described the assailants as “terrorists.”

The attack, which occurred early Tuesday morning near the National Gendarmerie school close to the city’s airport, has reportedly been brought “under control.”
Mali, grappling with an Islamist insurgency for over a decade, has seen ongoing violence despite a military coup in 2021 that ousted the previous government over its handling of the insurgency.
The identity of the attackers remains unclear.
On Tuesday morning, social media videos showed smoke rising from the city, and witnesses reported hearing gunshots around 05:30 local time.
People on their way to morning prayers were forced to turn back due to the gunfire. ORTM has indicated that “combing operations” are underway at the site of the attack.
