Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has rejected claims of a long-standing rivalry with current Black Stars skipper Andre Ayew, suggesting that any tension between them was fabricated by individuals with personal agendas.

In an Instagram Live session on Thursday, Gyan addressed the rumors, stating that the perceived rift was influenced by external forces.
“Andre is a good person. He has that genuine love for me, but he has been brainwashed because it benefits people. That is what has brought the so-called rivalry. Me, I am not a rival to anyone,” Gyan explained.
The tension between the two players reportedly intensified after Ayew succeeded Gyan as Black Stars captain in 2019, leading to widespread speculation about animosity between them.
Gyan, who retired from international football in 2023, had previously addressed other controversies during his career, including his infamous penalty miss against Uruguay at the 2010 World Cup.
On several occasions, he has used social media to speak candidly about his experiences with teammates and challenges in his career.
The former Sunderland striker, who holds the record as Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals, also expressed a willingness to move past the issue, stressing the need for unity.
