On Sunday, April 21, 2024, Asante Kotoko secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Samartex at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, courtesy of Enoch Morrison’s successful penalty conversion in the second half.

However, the penalty decision sparked controversy, with some fans taking to X (formerly Twitter) to voice their disapproval.

The incident unfolded when Emmanuel Kotei delivered a cross into the Samartex box, seeking a connection from a Kotoko player.

Peter Aminu’s mistimed connection resulted in a collision with a Samartex defender, prompting the referee to award a penalty to Asante Kotoko without hesitation.

The away team vehemently protested, arguing that they were instead deserving of a foul.

Post-game, fans continued to debate the call, with some labeling the officiating as “disgusting” while others questioned the referee’s decision.

The penalty award remained a contentious issue, fueling discussions among local football enthusiasts.
