Ashanti Police investigate shooting incident at Adventist SHS

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into a shooting incident that occurred at Adventist Senior High School in Kumasi on Friday, April 4, 2025, around 12:00 p.m.

According to preliminary findings, a 16-year-old second-year student—whose identity is being withheld—brought a locally manufactured pistol, loaded with a single BB round, onto the school premises.

The weapon reportedly discharged accidentally while the student attempted to show it to a classmate, resulting in injuries to another student. The names of those involved are being withheld for confidentiality.

The injured student was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where they received medical attention and are currently in stable condition. The suspect has been taken into police custody, and an empty cartridge has been retrieved as evidence.

During questioning, the suspect revealed that the firearm was taken from his father’s bedroom without his father’s consent. Authorities are now working to locate and arrest the father to assist in the ongoing investigation.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Godwin Ahianyo, who serves as the Public Affairs Officer for the Ashanti Regional Police, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on April 5, 2025. The police have reassured the public of their commitment to thoroughly investigating the matter.
