Health authorities in the Ashanti Region have placed hospitals on high alert and instructed facility managers to quickly report any suspected cases of Mpox.

This action follows confirmed cases of the disease in various parts of the country.

Dr. Adomako Boateng, the Ashanti Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service, stated that proactive measures have been implemented to manage potential cases effectively.

“Our routine surveillance system integrates disease monitoring and response based on the International Health Regulations 2005.

We have established structures to identify priority cases and ensure that symptoms of diseases such as Mpox and hemorrhagic fevers are recognized,” he explained.

He noted an increase in measles cases, highlighting the need for supplementary immunization activities.

“When cases are reported in one region, it necessitates intensified surveillance and investigation. If we fail to monitor these cases and the numbers escalate beyond control, we will face significant challenges,” he warned.

Dr. Boateng also urged the public to follow standard precautions in their daily routines to help reduce the spread of the disease.
