National Security operatives in the Ashanti Region have intercepted dozens of counterfeit diapers suspected to have been smuggled into Ghana from Nigeria.
The products, which carried the brand name of a well-known Ghanaian company, were uncovered three weeks ago during a routine inspection exercise at Asafo. Officials say the smugglers used falsified documentation in an attempt to conceal the origin of the goods.
Following the seizure, samples of the diapers were submitted to the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) for laboratory analysis. Tests confirmed that the products were counterfeit and posed serious health risks to consumers.

In line with the FDA’s directive, the National Security team on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, handed over the seized diapers to Zoomlion’s Medical Waste Treatment Plant for safe and scientific disposal.
Addressing the media on Thursday, August 21, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator, Alhaji Tapsoba Alhassan, said investigations are ongoing to track down the individuals and syndicates behind the illegal importation.
He assured the public that the authorities are intensifying surveillance to curb the infiltration of counterfeit goods into the Ghanaian market.
