Anderlecht midfielder Majeed Ashimeru has received his first call-up under Otto Addo for the Black Stars’ 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Ghana will face Angola on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the Baba Yara Stadium, followed by an away match against Niger.

According to Flashscore, this will be Ashimeru’s first invite from Otto Addo since his last appearance for Ghana at the 2023 AFCON.

The 26-year-old has become a fan favorite due to his skilled footwork and ability to deliver key passes.

His inclusion is expected to add depth to the midfield, especially as Thomas Partey, Ibrahim Sulemana, and Forsom Amankwah are reportedly unfit.

Otto Addo, now the substantive coach after leading Ghana to the 2022 World Cup, had previously excluded Ashimeru from his World Cup squad, a decision that sparked some controversy.

However, recent absences from the squad were attributed to injuries rather than coaching choices.

Ashimeru is now presented with a fresh opportunity to prove his worth as Ghana prepares for these important qualifiers.

Additionally, Enerst Nuamah and Kamaldeen Sulemana are anticipated to miss the matches due to injury, as reported by 3news.com.
