National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has strongly criticized the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for downplaying the NDC’s proposed 24-hour economy.

He compared the 24-hour economy initiative to the NPP’s double-track system, which was introduced to address overcrowding and infrastructure challenges in Senior High Schools (SHSs) across the country.

Speaking to residents of Pokrom in the Akuapem South Constituency during his five-day tour of the Eastern Region on Monday, Mr. Nketia encouraged Ghanaians to support the 24-hour economy, assuring them that it would create employment opportunities for the youth.

“The NPP has been diminishing the significance of our proposed 24-hour economy. Ask them, who introduced the shift system in schools. Even young children are familiar with shift systems.

Ironically, they oppose our proposal for the elderly to work in shifts, despite its commonality in other contexts. Is it not contradictory for them to dismiss this idea when it’s already a norm in our education system?

“The current system lacks job opportunities for the youth, but our proposed 24-hour economy will create employment for the people.

We plan to implement a shift system, similar to those used abroad.

However, NPP leaders are misrepresenting our 24-hour economy concept, claiming it lacks clarity. They should consult their own Education Minister, [Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum], about the origins of the blue, red, and yellow track systems in schools. Our 24-hour economy proposal demonstrates our ability to introduce innovative solutions.”
